The three gunas
Our activities are predetermined by the nature. Three forces, or gunas[1] are there in the nature: goodness (sattva), passion (rajas) and ignorance (tama). If our actions are predominated by ignorance, very bad results will come – unhappiness, suffering for us and others, tension. If our actions are under the governance of the passion, the result will be great business and attraction – and ultimately again suffering. And if we are under the influence of the virtue – the results would be knowledge, high morale and happiness. It is good to become under its influence. But is that enough? For ultimate perfection that is not enough. The activities are different according to the influences we fell under. Activity is a proof of the existence of consciousness. And wherever there is consciousness, there is a soul. Thus we understand that activity belongs to the soul, not to the body. But this natural activeness of the soul is twisted at the material platform – as egotism and violence over the others. |

Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti YogaWe have so far discussed Karma – action and reaction. Now we are going to speak about Yoga – the connection. What is the meaning of the word “religion”? Connection with God. From Latin “re-ligare” – to become connected again. This is yoga – the connection with The Supreme. To be connected with the source is the main way to be happy. To help establish this connection there are different religions, ways and philosophies. But we have agreed, that the way to happiness is love. And it has to be divine love! Not material, but superhuman! Human love is also very strong and we could only imagine how deep the divine love should be! That is why we can say, that true Yoga is the Yoga of the Divine love – that connects us with The Supreme in a loving way. This is Bhakti Yoga. Bhakti means Divine love, that is beyond any contamination and that is a scientific approach to God. It has a very ancient tradition in India, but it is not some kind of Indian religion. It is a universal approach.
